Want to share some of our research into different types of way to integrate digital displays into walls of our projects. We were asked by our clients to see how we can put non traditional displays into our office project.  We investigated two avenues: one is a programable digital screen paired with an infinity mirror box that can display dynamic images and video, the other is a led screen placed behind a thin wood veneer that remain imperceptible when off and can be integrated seamlessly into wood paneling or cabinetry.

Bill was invited to participate in their most recent research project into weaving cumulating in an exhibit at this year’s Design Shanghai expo. For our focus we concentrated on weaving as a structural system, while tensile structures were the most obvious, we explored pneumatic structures, concrete impregnated textiles and eventually obsessed ourselves with granular jamming as a way to give woven materials dynamic structural rigidity.

MRT design was responsbile for the design of Villeroy & Boch’s booth at the expo showing off their latest innovation and products. Inspired by Villeroy & Boch’s long history (275 years old this year) and their start in a small town in Germany. We designed a very blue little town in the middle of the exhibit that invites designers to come in and explore VB world.
